After twenty millimetres of rain yesterday this morning started fresher and brighter. Our equine dentist Gary Waters was here just after breakfast to do his routine check on all the horses. We like to get the horses teeth done at the start of every season as it amazes us how many new horses arrive that have never or been poorly done in the past. Bad teeth can cause eating and behavioural problems so it is best to start the season off how we mean to go on. Gary comes from South Africa but is available for work throughout the Uk and Ireland.

We have made a couple of entries this weekend. Cortinas and Viva Colonia have been entered at Market Rasen and Southwell Saturday/Sunday.Cortinas has found it hard Since winning at Southwell last season so has been dropped to selling grade hoping to bring an improved performance.Viva Colonia after winning on his debut for the stable has failed to progress. We have also dropped him to selling company at Southwell.

Bubbly Bruce was collected from Newmarket on Saturday morning after travelling from Ireland. He looks a very bright prospect for leading novice hurdles and will hopefully be heading to Cheltenham in March. After a couple of placed efforts in Irish bumpers he won on soft ground at Thurles then running a decent race in graded company at Punchestown. He looks a fine sort who should jump fences in the future.

Colin and Pauline Sturgeon called in this afternoon to see their pride and joy Sullumo. After winning a Novice chase at Uttoxeter he took a crashing fall at Chepstow in November. He failed to find his form there after so we sent him to the vets (O'Gorman Slater Main) before his summer holidays for a bone scan.He was found to have a back problem so after treatment and a long break he should be back to winning ways once he gets his favoured soft ground.

A very smart bumper horse from Ireland will be arriving today so more on him next week.He has been sent to us by a new owner.

FRIDAY 6TH AUGUST

A few horses cantered first lot this morning with the rest continuing to walk and trot around the roads and tracks. This is a very important time in preparation for the season ahead as most of the horses have been in the paddock for approx eight to twelve weeks so all have piled on the pounds!!! Walking and trotting helps to tone them up before starting to canter next week.Usually the process takes about three months from the horses return to work to actually getting to the races. We will keep you posted on progress

Charlie attended Doncaster sales this week.He had his eye on a smart 3year old of Mark Johnsons but unfortunately ended up being under bidder at 54k.We will be purchasing some 3year olds to syndicate in the near future. Please contact Charlie for further information

If anyone is interested we currently have for sale a 5year old gelding which will make a smashing point to pointer. He is a winner over hurdles and has been placed over fences

Most of the horses have returned from their summer holidays looking in great condition. Road work is the order of the day, well most days!! With only a few summer runners we are not as high on the Trainers table as we would like but hopefully that will soon change!!

Noel has made a welcome return to race riding with a few places on the board, I'm sure it won't be long before he is booting in the winners.

Plenty of new horses have arrived over the summer months with a few still to sell,If you are interested in owning a horse in the yard or would like to buy a share please contact charlie for further information

Prince Louis worked very nicely this morning under Charlie Duckworth, A winner last time out he could return to Plumpton on Monday with Peter Toole back on board

Tarquinius and Aqualung also worked well this morning with Lee Mills and Monica knox Crawford on top.Tarquinius was declared to run at Wincanton tomorrow but unfortunately the meeting has been lost to the weather.Aqualung is ready to run again but could do with the ground drying up before his next outing

Fin Vin De Leu and Vacario worked under David Holt and Chrissy Barnard.Fin Vin has come back from Cheltenham fresh and well he could also be seen at Plumpton on Monday.Vacario has had a winter break but could do with some sunshine before returning to the races

Montgermont seen here schooling under Stable Jockey Noel Fehily earlier in the season takes a step up in grade for the stable at Haydock on Saturday where he will be running in a £50,000 handicap.A winner last time out at Taunton Kieran Watson his regular work rider is very happy with his progress

Southwell winner

23rd March 2010
After a terribly disappointing Cheltenham Festival yesterday we had two runners at Plumpton and Kiribati King ran well considering the trip was a bit short for him,he finished third and will definitely pick one up over a longer trip. Then we had Art Exhibition who has been very disappointing this season dropping from a rating of 120 to a 105 over just a few months, so he had the blinkers on for the first time. He jumped a lot better and traveled really well  so the blinkers will be staying on. He just got a bit tired in the final furlong and might just need a furlong shorter to get back in to the winner’s enclosure but still a much better run finishing second.

Today we had two runners at Kempton starting with King Brex who was bidding to make it three on the trot but sadly he got overturned and finished third after hitting the fourth last very hard and losing a lot of momentum. Then we had Alphabetical who was ridden by Jake Greenall to finish fourth in a hunters chase. He jumped well bar the last which cost him third place but will surely pick up a hunters chase in the near future.

Moving onto Southwell we had Quentin D’Ex who traveled brilliantly down the back stretch and jumped superbly but made a mistake two out and then weakened. Finally we had Promising Anshan who ran in a maiden hurdle after a long break from the track and traveled like a dream, jumped well but for missing the last but still won very easily by five lengths in a hands a heels finish and then was heavily eased. That gave Peter Toole two winners for the yard in 8 days so will have regained some faith from the boss. He will be going for novice hurdle next and would be good enough to win with his penalty.

Plumpton

Cheltenham festival week couldn’t have got off to a better start for us with Prince Louis winning at Plumpton today. Peter Toole gave him a super ride, popping out in front, he got into a nice rhythm and jumped well, although he does still like to jump out to his left. Hopefully Prince Louis can build on this and we should be able to find another winning opportunity for him in the near future.

Air Force One set off for Down Royal this morning, he should arrive there early evening, he will have a relaxed day tomorrow before his race on Wednesday, Peter Toole is due to ride him, it will be the first time Peter will have ridden him in public but he has schooled him on plenty of occasions at home, so with a bit of luck Air Force can put his Doncaster mishap behind him.

Unfortunately we do not have a runner at Cheltenham tomorrow as Mr Big, our intended runner in the Cross Country race, missed out by one in the ballot which is a great pity.
